Step 1 of 5 · Receive

Receive this day’s Word

Ephesians 6:10–13

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare

I Will Stand Without Dehumanizing

Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.

I will stand firm in the Lord’s strength without turning people into objects of hatred. I choose truth, righteousness, faith, peace, and prayer.

Step 3 of 5 · Meditate

Do Not Turn People Into the Enemy

Paul tells believers to stand in God’s strength and explicitly says the struggle is not against flesh and blood. Spiritual seriousness should make us less eager to demonize people.

Ephesians ends with the image of God’s armor. Paul tells believers to be strong in the Lord, stand against evil, and remember that the struggle is not against flesh and blood.

That sentence should shape how we read everything that follows.

When conflict becomes intense, it is easy to turn another person into the enemy. We reduce them to a label, assume the worst motive, and justify words we would not otherwise use. Paul redirects the battle language away from flesh and blood.

Spiritual resistance therefore cannot become an excuse for contempt toward people. The armor described in the following verses includes truth, righteousness, the good news of peace, faith, salvation, God’s word, and prayer.

Standing firm may require boundaries, courage, truth, or resistance to real wrongdoing. But Christians are not strengthened by hatred.

Think about a person or group you have been speaking about as though they are the whole problem. Ask what it would mean to oppose what is wrong without surrendering truth, dignity, prayer, or love.

Step 4 of 5 · Pray

Pray in response

Lord, strengthen me to resist what is evil without becoming hateful toward people. Guard my words from contempt and my heart from bitterness. Give me truth, courage, wise boundaries, and the peace of the gospel. Teach me to stand firm while remembering that flesh and blood are not the final enemy. Amen.

Step 5 of 5 · Reflect

Reflect with honesty

  1. Whose humanity is hardest for you to remember right now?

  2. What wrong may still need to be resisted or confronted?

  3. How can you do that without contempt?
