Step 1 of 5 · Receive
Receive this day’s Word
Colossians 4:2–6
Continue steadfastly in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving, praying together for us also, that God may open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds, that I may reveal it as I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare
My Words Can Carry Grace
Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.
I will pray before I speak, walk with wisdom, and choose words that are truthful, gracious, and suited to the person in front of me.
Step 3 of 5 · Meditate
Prayerful, Wise, Gracious Speech
Paul links steadfast prayer, wisdom toward outsiders, and speech marked by grace. Christian witness is shaped by both what we say and how we say it.

At the end of Colossians, Paul places prayer and speech close together. He asks the church to remain steadfast in prayer and to pray for an open door to speak about Christ clearly. Then he turns to the believers’ own conduct toward outsiders.
Walk wisely. Use opportunities well. Let your speech be gracious. Know how to answer each person.
There is no single script for every conversation. Gracious speech requires attention to the person in front of us. Sometimes wisdom means speaking clearly; sometimes it means asking a question, listening longer, or refusing a pointless argument.
Grace in speech is not the same as saying only pleasant things. Paul wants truthful witness. But truth does not need contempt to become strong.
Before an important conversation today, pray first. Ask not only for the right words but for a wise posture. Pay attention to tone, timing, and the person’s actual question.
A life of prayer should make our speech more careful, not more careless.
Step 4 of 5 · Pray
Pray in response
God, make me steadfast in prayer and careful in speech. Give me wisdom for the people I meet, patience to listen, and courage to speak truth without contempt. Guard me from reactive words, and let grace shape both what I say and how I say it. Amen.
