Step 1 of 5 · Receive
Receive this day’s Word
Romans 12:15–18
Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits. Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare
I Will Practice Humble Presence
Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.
I will make room for another person’s joy or sorrow without centering myself. I will pursue peace, reject retaliation, and honor wise limits.
Step 3 of 5 · Meditate
Make Room for Another Person’s Emotion
Romans 12 calls believers to enter both joy and sorrow with others, choose humility, refuse retaliation, and pursue peace as far as their responsibility reaches.

Some relationships become difficult because we do not know how to be present with emotions that are not ours. Someone celebrates, and comparison makes it hard to rejoice. Someone grieves, and discomfort makes us rush to advice.
Romans 12 offers a simpler response: rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
Empathy does not require you to manufacture the same emotion. It asks you to make room for another person’s reality without immediately centering yourself. The surrounding verses connect that posture with humility, refusing revenge, and pursuing peace.
Paul also includes an important limit: “if it is possible, as much as it is up to you.” Peace is something we pursue, but we cannot control another person’s choices. The call does not require remaining in unsafe circumstances or pretending serious harm is resolved.
Today, notice whether someone near you needs celebration, comfort, or simply attention. Resist the urge to compare, fix, or redirect the conversation back to yourself. Presence can be an act of love.
Step 4 of 5 · Pray
Pray in response
God, free me from comparison when others rejoice and from impatience when they grieve. Teach me to listen with humility, refuse retaliation, and pursue peace where I can. Give me wisdom to respect healthy limits while remaining compassionate and present. Amen.
Step 5 of 5 · Reflect
Reflect with honesty
Is it harder for you to rejoice with others or to sit with their sorrow?
What usually makes you shift attention back to yourself?
Who needs your presence more than your advice today?
