Step 1 of 5 · Receive

Receive this day’s Word

Hebrews 3:12–13

Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there might be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God; but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called “today”, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare

I Will Give and Receive Encouragement

Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.

I was not made to persevere alone. I will encourage others with truth and kindness, and I will remain open to receiving encouragement myself.

Step 3 of 5 · Meditate

Encouragement Is Part of Perseverance

Hebrews treats perseverance as a shared responsibility. Believers are told to encourage one another so that isolation and the deceitfulness of sin do not harden the heart.

Hebrews 3 looks back to Israel’s wilderness rebellion and warns believers not to repeat a pattern of hardened unbelief. The warning is serious, but the response is communal: encourage one another day by day.

Faith is personal, but it is not meant to become isolated. We need people who can remind us of truth when our perspective narrows, challenge us when we begin excusing what harms us, and strengthen us when continuing feels difficult.

Encouragement here is more than compliments. It can include comfort, warning, prayer, presence, and truthful words offered with love. It is meant to help one another remain responsive to God.

This passage should not turn us into spiritual inspectors of everyone around us. Healthy encouragement begins with humility. We are also people who need encouragement.

Think of one person whose faithfulness could use support today. A short message, a prayer, or a thoughtful conversation may matter more than you know. Then ask yourself who has permission to encourage and correct you too.

Step 4 of 5 · Pray

Pray in response

God, thank you for people who help me keep listening to you. Make me an encouraging presence rather than a careless critic. Give me courage to speak truth with kindness and humility to receive correction when I need it. Protect me from isolation that hardens the heart. Amen.

Step 5 of 5 · Reflect

Reflect with honesty

  1. Who has helped you stay faithful when your perspective was narrow?

  2. Who could use a sincere word of encouragement from you today?

  3. Are you open to receiving correction as well as giving advice?
