Jesus calls his disciples to a visible way of life whose good works direct attention toward the Father rather than toward personal recognition.

Jesus speaks these words near the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount. After describing the character of people shaped by God’s Kingdom, he calls his disciples salt and light. The image is public, but its goal is not self-promotion.
The light is meant to be seen through good works that lead others to glorify the Father. That gives Christian visibility a different center. We do not need to build a spiritual image, compete for attention, or make every act public. Faithful actions can simply make God’s goodness more visible in the places we already live.
Today’s “light” may look ordinary: keeping your word, doing honest work, caring for someone overlooked, refusing cruelty, or serving when no applause follows.
Ask not, “How can I make people notice me?” but, “How can my life make it easier for someone to see something true and good about God?”

Pray in response
Father, let my life reflect your goodness without becoming a performance. Give me integrity when no one is watching and humility when my actions are seen. Show me one way to serve, encourage, or act justly today. May whatever is good in my life point beyond me toward you. Amen.
