Step 1 of 5 · Receive

Receive this day’s Word

Psalm 23:1–3

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare

The Lord Shepherds and Restores Me

Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.

The Lord is my shepherd. I can receive his provision, accept needed rest, and follow his guidance without treating exhaustion as proof of faithfulness.

Step 3 of 5 · Meditate

Led Beside Quiet Waters

Psalm 23 portrays God as a shepherd who provides, restores, and guides. Rest is received within his faithful care.

Psalm 23 begins with relationship: the LORD is my shepherd.

A shepherd provides direction, protection, and care. The image does not suggest that the sheep control the route or never face danger. Later verses include the darkest valley and the presence of enemies.

The green pastures and quiet waters describe provision and rest. “He restores my soul” carries the sense of bringing life back and setting a person on the right path.

Many people live as though stopping is dangerous. We fear falling behind, disappointing others, or facing thoughts that busyness helps us avoid.

The shepherd leads to rest. That means rest can be an act of trust rather than a reward earned after every task is finished.

Restoration may include sleep, nourishment, worship, time outdoors, a slower schedule, medical care, conversation, or returning to a neglected practice. It is not one identical experience for everyone.

Guidance also accompanies restoration. God restores us for paths of righteousness—ways that reflect his character. Rest is not escape from faithful life; it helps us return to it with greater truth and wholeness.

Ask where your soul feels depleted. What form of care have you been resisting? Choose one realistic act of restoration today, even if it is small.

The Shepherd is not impressed by exhaustion. He leads, provides, and restores.

Step 4 of 5 · Pray

Pray in response

Shepherding God, you know where I am depleted.

Lead me toward the care I need. Give me humility to rest, receive nourishment, seek help, or slow down where wisdom requires it.

Restore what constant pressure has worn down.

Then guide me back into paths that are true, loving, and faithful.

Teach me to trust your care rather than making exhaustion my identity.

Amen.

Step 5 of 5 · Reflect

Reflect with honesty

  1. Where do you feel most depleted—body, mind, spirit, or relationships?

  2. What form of care or rest have you been postponing?

  3. What faithful path might you be better able to walk after receiving restoration?
