Work includes more than employment. It can be study, caregiving, ministry, creativity, household responsibility, job searching, or the difficult work of recovery.
Proverbs 16:3 calls us to commit our works to the LORD. The surrounding chapter repeatedly contrasts human plans with God’s purposes and warns against pride.
Committing work to God is not a way to control the result. It means placing the work, motives, methods, and hopes under his authority.
We can ask: Is this work honest? Does it serve people or exploit them? Am I approaching it with diligence, humility, and appropriate limits? Am I willing for God to correct the plan?
The statement that plans will be established belongs within the wisdom tradition. Proverbs describes the general pattern of faithful living, while a particular project may still involve revision, delay, disappointment, or change.
Sometimes commitment leads to persistence. Sometimes it reveals that a plan needs revision, delay, counsel, or release.
Before beginning an important task, name your intention. Offer both the work and what you hope will come from it to God. Then focus on the quality of the next action rather than trying to control the entire result.
A task can become worship when it is done with truth, care, and humility. An ordinary responsibility can be meaningful even if few people see it.
Commit the work. Welcome correction. Do the next part well.
Step 4 of 5 · Pray
Pray in response
God, I commit my work to you.
Examine my motives and correct what is shaped by pride, fear, or the need for approval.
Give me diligence for the task, integrity in the method, and wisdom about the plan.
Help me accept limits, receive counsel, and change direction where needed.
I release the results I cannot control and ask that my work serve what is good.
Amen.
Step 5 of 5 · Reflect
Reflect with honesty
What work or responsibility needs your focused attention today?
What motive is influencing the way you approach it?
What would diligence, integrity, and openness to correction look like in the next step?
