Step 1 of 5 · Receive

Receive this day’s Word

Psalm 16:8

I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare

I Set God Before Me

Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.

I will set God before me throughout this day. His presence, character, and truth will be my reference point, and I will return to him when circumstances or emotions unsettle me.

Step 3 of 5 · Meditate

Steady Because God Is Near

The psalmist sets the LORD continually before him and finds stability in God’s presence.

Stability is often imagined as a life without disruption. Psalm 16 offers a deeper source: the presence of God.

The psalmist says that he has set the LORD always before him and, because God is at his right hand, he will not be moved.

This does not mean that no circumstance can shake him emotionally or physically. The psalm includes vulnerability and the need for protection. The confidence comes from a deliberate orientation: God remains before him.

We all place something before us. It may be a fear, an ambition, another person’s approval, a deadline, or an imagined future. Whatever dominates our attention can begin to direct our choices.

Setting God before us means remembering his character and receiving his guidance as the central reference point. It can happen through a short prayer before a meeting, a verse recalled during temptation, gratitude before beginning work, or a pause before replying in anger.

God at the right hand is an image of nearness and support. Our steadiness is not self-produced toughness. It is a life repeatedly turned toward him.

Choose one transition in your day—waking, beginning work, traveling, eating, or ending the day—as a reminder to set God before you.

Circumstances may still move. Emotions may still rise and fall. But your life can be reoriented again and again toward the One who remains near.

Step 4 of 5 · Pray

Pray in response

God, be the center of my attention today.

I confess how easily fear, approval, pressure, or ambition becomes the thing I place before me.

Remind me of your nearness in every transition. Guide my words, decisions, and reactions.

When I feel unsettled, help me return to your character and truth.

Make me steady, not through hardness, but through dependence on you.

Amen.

Step 5 of 5 · Reflect

Reflect with honesty

  1. What concern, desire, or person’s approval has been dominating your attention?

  2. Which daily transition could become a cue to remember God’s presence?

  3. How might your next decision change if God’s character were your central reference point?
