Step 2 of 5 · Declare
God Is My Light and Stronghold
Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.
God is my light, salvation, and stronghold. Fear may speak, but it will not make every decision for me. With wisdom and support, I will take the next faithful step.
Step 3 of 5 · Meditate
Courage in God’s Light
Psalm 27 grounds courage in who God is: light, salvation, and stronghold. Fear is acknowledged, but it is not given final authority.

Fear narrows our attention. It can make one threat feel like the whole story.
Psalm 27 does not begin with the psalmist’s confidence in himself. It begins with God: the LORD is light, salvation, and stronghold. Courage grows from that confession.
Light helps us see. Salvation reminds us that rescue belongs to God. A stronghold is a place of protection. Together, these images do not promise that danger is imaginary. The rest of the psalm includes enemies, abandonment, waiting, and a plea for guidance. The writer is courageous because he brings real fear into the presence of a trustworthy God.
Faithful courage is not recklessness. It does not require us to ignore risk, refuse help, or enter unsafe situations. Courage can mean asking for support, setting a boundary, telling the truth, making a careful plan, or taking one step after a long delay.
Fear may still be present while courage is practiced. The question is not always, “Do I feel afraid?” It may be, “What will guide my next choice—fear alone, or trust in God?”
Identify one situation where fear has been directing you. Name the risk honestly. Then ask what wise, faithful action is possible today.
You do not need to prove that you are fearless. You can move with God as your light, salvation, and stronghold.
Step 4 of 5 · Pray
Pray in response
God, be my light where I feel confused and my stronghold where I feel exposed.
You know the fear I am carrying. Keep me from denial, panic, and reckless action.
Give me wisdom to understand the situation, courage to do what is right, and humility to seek help where I need it.
Let trust in your presence guide my next decision more than fear alone.
Hold me steady as I move forward.
Amen.
Step 5 of 5 · Reflect
Reflect with honesty
What fear has been influencing your choices most strongly?
What is the real risk, and what wise support or preparation do you need?
What small, faithful action could you take without pretending to be fearless?
