Step 1 of 5 · Receive

Receive this day’s Word

Colossians 3:12–14

Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance;

bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare

I Will Put On Love

Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.

I am loved by God, and I will let that identity shape how I treat others. I choose compassion, humility, patience, truth, and wise forgiveness instead of reacting from pride or resentment.

Step 3 of 5 · Meditate

Clothe Yourself With Love

Because God’s people are chosen and loved, Paul calls them to put on compassion, humility, patience, forgiveness, and love.

Relationships reveal what we are wearing on the inside. Under pressure, impatience, pride, resentment, and defensiveness can become visible quickly.

Paul writes to people who are already described as chosen, holy, and loved. Their compassionate behavior is not a way to earn God’s acceptance. It is a response to the identity they have received from him.

He tells them to “put on” qualities such as compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. The image suggests intentional practice. We do not always wake up feeling patient, but we can choose to slow down. We may not feel naturally compassionate, but we can pay attention to another person’s burden before reacting.

The passage also speaks about bearing with one another and forgiving. Forgiveness is central to Christian life, but it should not be confused with pretending harm did not happen, removing every boundary, or restoring trust without wisdom and change. It means releasing revenge and responding under the grace we ourselves have received.

Above all, Paul says to put on love, which binds these virtues together. Love is not merely warmth. It seeks the good of another person through truth, patience, humility, and faithful action.

Think of one relationship that will require grace today. Before the next conversation, remember who you are: loved by God. Then choose the quality you most need to put on.

You cannot control another person’s response, but you can choose what you bring into the room.

Step 4 of 5 · Pray

Pray in response

God, thank you that your love is not something I earn.

Let the security of being loved by you shape the way I relate to others. Replace pride with humility, harshness with gentleness, and impatience with self-control.

Give me wisdom where forgiveness and boundaries must exist together. Help me speak truth without contempt and show compassion without ignoring harm.

In the relationship before me today, help me put on love.

Amen.

Step 5 of 5 · Reflect

Reflect with honesty

  1. Which relationship is most likely to test your patience or humility today?

  2. What reaction are you tempted to wear—defensiveness, resentment, control, or indifference?

  3. Which quality from Colossians 3:12–14 can you intentionally bring into your next interaction?
