Step 1 of 5 · Receive

Receive this day’s Word

Psalm 143:8

Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you.

Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.

Step 2 of 5 · Declare

I Begin This Week Trusting God

Read this slowly. Let each sentence remain anchored to today’s Scripture.

God’s loving kindness meets me at the beginning of this week. I place my trust in him and lift every responsibility, decision, and concern into his hands. I will seek his direction through prayer and Scripture, and I will walk faithfully in what he makes clear. I do not need to control the whole week today. With God’s help, I will take the next faithful step.

Step 3 of 5 · Meditate

Begin the Week With God’s Direction

Before the demands of a new week begin, pause to receive God’s loving kindness, place your trust in him, and ask him to guide the way you should walk today.

A new week can arrive carrying many expectations.

There may be work to complete, classes to attend, decisions to make, people to support, and responsibilities that already feel urgent. Before the day properly begins, it can seem as though your mind is being pulled in several directions at once.

Psalm 143:8 gives us another way to begin.

The writer is not speaking from an easy or carefree situation. Earlier in the psalm, he describes feeling overwhelmed and distressed. Yet instead of allowing fear to have the final word, he remembers what God has done and turns to him in prayer.

He asks to hear of God’s loving kindness in the morning.

This reminds us that the first truth we need for a new day is not that we are capable of controlling everything. It is that God remains loving and faithful. Our confidence does not begin with a perfect plan. It begins with the character of the One in whom we place our trust.

The psalmist also asks God to show him the way he should walk. He does not simply ask for relief from difficulty; he asks for direction and obedience.

God’s guidance should not be reduced to waiting for a mysterious feeling or demanding an immediate sign. We seek his direction by praying honestly, listening to Scripture, receiving wise counsel, examining our motives, and obeying what he has already made clear.

You may not know everything this week will contain. You do not need to carry the entire week at once.

Bring today before God.

Ask him to shape your attitude, your words, your decisions, and the way you treat other people. Pay attention to the responsibilities already in front of you. Then take the next faithful step with humility and trust.

Begin this week by receiving God’s loving kindness before responding to its demands.

You may not see the whole road, but you can ask God to teach you how to walk faithfully today.

Step 4 of 5 · Pray

Pray in response

Father, thank you for bringing me into a new day and a new week.

Before I focus on everything that needs to be done, help me receive the truth of your loving kindness. Let my confidence begin with who you are, not with my ability to control every outcome.

I place my responsibilities, decisions, conversations, studies, work, and concerns before you.

Show me the way I should walk today. Give me wisdom through your Word, humility to receive correction, and courage to obey what you have already made clear.

Guard me from rushing ahead without prayer, but also keep me from using uncertainty as a reason to avoid faithful action.

Help me speak with grace, work with integrity, treat others with love, and remain thankful in ordinary moments.

When the week feels too heavy, remind me that I only need to carry today’s responsibilities with you.

Lead my thoughts, my choices, and my steps.

I lift my life to you and place my trust in you.

Amen.

Step 5 of 5 · Reflect

Reflect with honesty

  1. Think about one situation in which you feel uncertain or unable to control the outcome.

  2. Where might you be leaning only on your own understanding? What fear, assumption, or desired result are you finding difficult to release?

  3. Consider how you can acknowledge God in this situation through prayer, Scripture, wise counsel, humility, or obedience.

  4. What is one faithful and responsible step you can take today while leaving the final outcome in God’s hands?
